Starting a new medicine can come with questions, uncertainty, or confusion. The NHS New Medicine Service (NMS) at Time Pharmacy is designed to support patients who have been prescribed a new medication for a long-term condition. Our trained pharmacists make sure you fully understand your treatment, how to take your medicine correctly, and how to get the maximum benefit from it.
This pharmacy new medicine service is free on the NHS, and available in-store and remotely.
The NHS New Medicine Service is a structured consultation programme where a pharmacist supports a patient during the first few weeks of starting certain new medicines.
The aim is to improve medication adherence, reduce complications, and make sure your treatment works effectively.
We offer a friendly, private discussion with our pharmacist so you feel confident when starting any newly prescribed medicine.
Once you’ve been given a new long-term medicine, our pharmacist will invite you for an NMS discussion—either in-person or over the phone.
A follow-up will take place within 1–2 weeks to check how you’re managing the new medication and to discuss any side effects or concerns.
We’ll contact you again to confirm how you’re doing and support you with next steps if adjustments or referral back to the GP is needed.
The NMS service is usually offered when starting medicines for conditions such as:
👉 Asthma & COPD
👉 Type 2 Diabetes
👉 High blood pressure (hypertension)
👉 Blood thinners (anticoagulants)
👉 Depression / mental health medications
👉High cholesterol
(and other conditions approved under the NMS service specification)
👉 Private consultation rooms
👉 Easy appointment booking
👉 Expert pharmacist support
👉 Clear guidance on dosage & side effects
👉Local care with modern NHS services
Time Pharmacy makes the NMS journey smooth, supportive, and stress-free.
